SUSTAINABILITY
A better life, a better earth
Why PBAT
Made for today.
Mindful of tomorrow.
Food wrap developed with biodegradable PBAT.
The materials we choose matter. A food wrap is used for only a short moment, but what it is made of stays with us much longer. That is why BIONME begins with the material.
Why a different material?
Built to last
Most cling films are made from conventional plastics such as PE or PVC. They are thin and convenient, but they are designed to stay intact.
- Derived from fossil resources
- Do not readily break down once discarded
- Single-use films are hard to recycle after contact with food
Designed to return
PBAT (polybutylene adipate terephthalate) is a biodegradable polyester. It is soft and flexible, which makes it well suited to thin films such as food wrap.
- Can be broken down by microorganisms under suitable conditions
- Flexible and stretchable for everyday wrapping
- Lets BIONME consider the moment of use and what comes after

A choice that returns to nature
Biodegradation means a material can be broken down by microorganisms into water, carbon dioxide and biomass. How quickly this happens depends on conditions such as temperature, moisture and microbial activity.
BIONME uses PBAT so that a small everyday product can be part of a more considered cycle, from production to after use.
